In honor of International Women's Day, we're featuring five women who work at the Visible Tailoring Centre. Our first post featured our production manager, Sugandha. Next, we featured Lovely and Rajani, two of our fair trade clothing tailors, and today we're introducing you to Sheetal.
How long have you worked at Visible Tailoring Centre and what is your role?
I have worked at the tailoring centre, in the dispatching section, since May 2010. In my job, I make sure each order is dispatched and sent to the customer on time.
What do you enjoy the most about India, its culture, and people?
I like everything about India and its people, specifically festivals. I like the Diwali and Karwachauth festivals the most. Diwali because of the lights and sweets. This is the biggest festival for Indians. We celebrate the victory of good over evil and worship goddess Laxami and Lord Ganesha.
Karwachauth is the festival for married women in which they keep fast for their husband's long life. They buy new clothes and jewelry on that day and wear beautiful dresses. At night they break their fast by looking at the moon and offering prayers to it.
What has changed in your life since working at Visible Tailoring Centre?
Since I started working here I feel good about myself as I am supporting my family and I can secure my children's future.
